- Epic vision -
Based on the ancient bust in the National Museum in Naples, Homer is depicted as a prophetic seer. However, his eyes do not appear blind, but rather – precisely because they are half-closed – particularly clairvoyant. And what the greatest poet of antiquity perceives seems to shape his entire physiognomy from within. A dynamism that is also evident in his beard and hair. And yet his posture is completely calm on the outside, which testifies to his greatness and gives Homer a monumental character, emphasized by the stepped pedestal. The artist succeeds in bringing the ancient bust to life and interpreting it in his own unique way.
