Bodzin, Herbert Richard Max (1936-2025), Steel sculpture, 1974
Herbert Richard Max Bodzin(1936 Hohenlimburg - Weyhe 2025), Steel sculpture , 1974. 85 cm (height) x 25 cm (width) x 25 cm (depth), signed “H. Bodzin” on the base plate and dated “[19]74.”
- Very isolated slight traces of corrosion, otherwise in very good condition
- Floral minimalism -
Max Bodzin takes up the brushed steel sculptures of minimalism. However, the rods standing on a round base plate are not ‘ideal’ forms of an autonomous aesthetic sphere distinct from nature; rather, dense foliage grows out of the rods covered with branch stubs, so that inorganic minimalism is organically permeated. The fanning and twisting leaves form the actual figuration of the sculpture, bringing back the abundance of life that minimalism had suppressed.
Herbert Max Bodzin worked as a freelance sculptor, painter, and musician from 1966 onwards. Among other places, he was active in Worpswede. Large sculptures in public spaces can be found in Bassum, Bremen, Diepholz, Konz, and Weyhe.
