Ángel Duarte(1930 Aldeanueva del Camino - 2007 Sion), Kinetic Structures , 1969. Serigraph, 33 cm x 31 cm (mat), 51 cm x 48 cm (frame), signed “A.[ngel] Duarte” in pencil lower right and numbered “113/118” lower left.

- Print in very good condition, frame edges slightly rubbed in places.

- Spatial waves -

In a square and thus undirected field, line structures merge into waves and form an exciting, self-moving space. The resulting movement does not take place in a predetermined space; rather, the space is generated by the movement itself. The image illustrates how a space of movement emerges from the surface and the flat lines, creating a dynamic aesthetic.

About the artist

Ángel Duarte Jiménez was a Spanish sculptor and a central figure in geometric abstraction in Spain. After training as a goldsmith, he moved to Paris in 1954 and, in 1957, founded the Equipo 57 group with other artists, which was inspired by Russian constructivism. After the group disbanded in 1966, Duarte moved to Sion, Switzerland, where he co-founded the Y Group artists' association and realized numerous art projects in public spaces.

He developed his own style using steel rods to create movement and optical effects in the spirit of kinetic art. He was also an early adopter of information technology and mathematical principles such as the hyperbolic paraboloid for his sculptures.
