- Complementary tension -
Green and red figures are connected in a grotesque, symmetrical way. They are so intertwined that the figures form a single figuration, with the complementary contrast of the colors increasing the inner tension. Only upon closer inspection does it become clear that these are the same figuration of a red and a green figure, which is sometimes overlaid and cropped by the green background. The multiple figuration begins to dance, fragment, and reconfigure itself. A formal game that is at the same time an allegory of inseparable interconnectedness.
About the artist
From 1958 to 1963, Johanna Obermüller studied at the Munich Art Academy and passed the state examination in art education in 1965. She then worked as an art teacher in Regensburg until 1980, before devoting herself entirely to art. In 1988, 1989, and 1993, the artist was a scholarship holder at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and in 1994 at the Jerusalem Mishkenot Sha'ananim. Johanna Obermüller is a member of GEDOK Munich, BBK Lower Bavaria/Upper Palatinate, the Esslingen Artists' Guild, and the groups KUNST.STOFF and UEKI.
